Abstract

Sculpting in time (Tarkovski, 2006) is a necessary book at this time as it is a reference on the place occupied by cinematography as realization and reception since its director , Andrei Tarkovski, explains the meaning of cinema as a collective activity. In periods that the word cruelty is repeated, there is a reference to actions that lead to that deplorable attitude, the review of his work shows awareness about the term in the middle of audiovisual poliphony characteristic of the time.
Our essay, reviews his work making clear the concept of cruelty, also denoting by contrario sensu, sympathy and kindness. We also try to approach other uses of the term in different stages of the history of cinematography, when the Word takes on another meaning like rebellion, for example. The writing also quotes Argentine films and audiovisuals to conclude with more questions and answers emulating the Russian author in his moments of greatest epiphany.
